A part of the Internet age that nobody needs – Computer Viruses. Isn’t it a funny world, no matter what great things are achieved there is always someone willing to destroy them. What possesses these people to program these Viruses and send them out to wreak havoc with people’s computer systems? Obviously these people are not stupid and it’s a shame that they can’t apply this inteligence to doing something worthwhile.

These rogue programmers are getting smarter all the time too, and Anti-Virus programmers have a hard time keeping one step ahead of them. Once again your online security can be compromised if your system is infected with a Virus and from what I have read of people that have fallen victim to a computer virus, you wouldn’t wish that on your worst enemy!

When I first discovered and started using this amazing new thing called the Internet (yes, I can remember back that far!), I was frustrated by the pop-up ads that appeared time after time when trying to view a website. I now know that browser’s have improved and most have adequate pop-up blockers, but somehow these ads still find their way onto our screens.

I have to wonder whether these ads actually produce any results for the people paying for them. People simply hate them yet there seems to be a endless supply of them, mostly from sites that are not what the majority of web-surfers would want to see. Young people being exposed to gambling and porn sites while innocently searching for information should be considered a criminal offence in my opinion.

One threat that we are continually exposed to when using the Internet is Spyware, particularly if you download share-ware files. Spyware tracks your movements on the Net and can be used to report back your personal details that the Spyware programmers can use for all sorts of illegal activities. Computer browser settings can also be changed and pop-up ads can appear out of nowhere. Nobody needs to go through the drama’s that can arise from Spyware, such as identity theft, credit card details being used for unauthorized purchases and in it’s simplest form it can mess with your computer’s operating system and slow it down.

The good news is that something can be done to protect yourself from this menace. There are hundreds, if not thousands of programs available and sorting the good from the not so good may be a task you don’t feel like tackling yourself.
